Arab News – Three Saudi companies won the prestigious Prima Duta Awards 2015 conferred by the Indonesian government for promoting trade between the two nations.
The awards were handed out at the Indonesian Embassy in the Diplomatic Quarter on Sunday to Said Bawazir Group, a distributor and importer of instant noodles and food preparations, Pinehill Arabia Food Ltd., an importer and producer of instant noodles, and Sami Farouk Alkathiry Trading Establishment, an importer and distributor of food preparations.
In his address, Tuan Sunarko, charge d’affaires at the Indonesian Embassy, said an increased variety of Indonesian products are coming into the Saudi market including vehicles, food products, beverages, tires, paper and clothing.
He said Indonesia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in 2010 stood at $1.67 billion, which has now almost doubled to $2.16 billion. “Even amid the current global economic downturn, exports from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia from January to August 2015 increased by 24.21 percent compared to the same period the previous year,” he said. He said this increase was due to the quality products produced by Indonesian firms and the commitment of Saudi businesspeople to continually develop trade ties with Jakarta.
“In order to honor this important role and in recognition of the contribution of Saudi businessmen to increase Indonesia’s exports, the Indonesian government has conferred upon these three companies the prestigious Prima Duta Awards,” he said.
Sunarko said he hoped that trade between the two nations would grow from the $8.2 billion recorded in 2014 to $15 billion in 2020. He said the Indonesian embassy would continue to facilitate deals between businesspeople of the two countries.
Lukman Abdat from Said Bawazir Group said the award would “motivate us to build more networks with Indonesian businesspeople and help bolster cooperation.”
The Indonesian government has this year honored 60 companies from 22 nations worldwide for helping to boost ties with the country’s businesses. There were 210 buyers and importers from 37 countries abroad nominated for the awards.
The awards were handed over to the winners on behalf of Indonesia President Joko Widodo, which were originally presented by him during the opening ceremony of the 30th Trade Exhibition Indonesia in Jakarta on Oct. 21 and were received by the Indonesian ambassadors on behalf of the buyers, importers, distributors or selling agent winners.
The ceremony was attended by dozens of Saudi businesspeople, Indonesian diplomats from Riyadh and Jeddah and other embassy officials.
