Arab News –  Several artists here have called on the Ministry of Culture and Information and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) to set up museums that collect and protect artwork, including films and sculptures produced in this country over the years.
Ahmed Al-Srori, a theater specialist, said it was important to save this work before it is lost forever. The Kingdom is rich in various types of artwork, he said.
Cinematographer Fahad Al-Yahya said there had not been a great deal of artwork produced over a 100 years ago when Saudis were living a hard life. However, this has changed in recent years.
Sculptor Mohammed Al-Thaqafi said: “When we want to look at the history of any country, we refer to its museums where its cultural arts heritage is collected, archived, documented and preserved.”
Al-Thaqafi said that the Kingdom has produced many artists and intellectuals of note who need to be recognized for their contribution.
